Amazon.com Product Description The newest generation of its popular Eee PC line, the Asus Eee PC 900 provides the power of a full-sized laptop in a compact body with a larger 8.9-inch screen. Even with the larger size of the Eee PC 900 when compared to the original Eee PC, the new model still weighs under 2 pounds--perfect for students toting to school or road warriors packing away to Wi-Fi hotspots. And because it uses flash memory instead of a hard drive (with 20 GB of storage), the Eee PC 900 is optimal for weathering rough handling and sharing space in overstuffed bags.
The Asus Eee PC 900's 8.9-inch screen is easier on the eyes, and the integrated webcam makes video chats a snap. | Other features include a 1.3-megapixel webcam integrated into the bezel above the LCD, a Secure Digital memory card slot, Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g), multiple USB ports, and a VGA output for connecting to a monitor. It comes preinstalled with the Linux operating system, and it's also compatible with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system. For the students and professionals, the Eee PC comes with a powerful selection of software to maximize personal productivity--over 40 built-in applications. The Open Office suite of software enables the user to open, edit and create documents, presentations, spreadsheets and databases that are compatible with Microsoft Office. For journalists, photographers and other professionals who need to use a computer in the field to create, to communicate and to collaborate with other colleagues, the Eee PC's combination of power, extreme portability and rugged build makes it the ideal computing solution.
No technical manual required with the specially designed, user-friendly, and intuitive graphic interface.. | | It's also a great choice for young students, with a built-in Dictionary that's great for homework, and it includes two modes of intuitive graphic user interface design to accommodate both experienced and inexperienced PC users. The Eee PC also handles your digital images, movies, and music as well as Internet radio. Nicely light at just 35 ounces, the Eee PC 900 has an 8.9-inch wide TFT LCD with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution (WXGA)--making it more comfortable on eyes than its predecessor. Under the hood is a 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU with integrated Intel graphics processor, 1 GB of RAM (not expandable), and 20 GB of flash memory solid-state drive (SSD). The SSD provides quiet performance and helps save energy, while its shock-proof solid state design helps to guard against data loss or shock-related damage if the laptop is dropped. In addition to its wireless LAN, it also offers wired Fast Ethernet connectivity and a 56K modem. The Eee PC includes software for Web browsing (Firefox), e-mail, OpenOffice 2.0 for creating and editing word processing documents and spreadsheets, and a suite of other productivity software to help keep you on track. You get three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output for connecting to external monitors, headphone and microphone jacks, and a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot. The rechargeable battery provides up to 3.5 hours of battery life (depending on usage). It's backed by a 1 year warranty for parts and labor. Specifications - Internal memory: 20 GB solid state disk

disgusted with asus July 21, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
i ASUS Eee PC 900 20G (8.9" Display, 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB Solid State Drive, Linux, 4 Cell Battery) Galaxy Black
After reading reviews for a couple of weeks, I purchased a eeepc900. i was happy with the size and the quality of the screen image, but linux is just useless. i had no idea that there are so many things you can't do, and the eeepc seems impossible to upgrade without first adding windows xp, which i'll do next week. anyway, i think asus is a terrible company because after just two weeks of this 900 version, they put out a 16g version, with xp, for $150 less than i paid. there's no way to return mine, because by the time i pay the restocking fee, i've already lost the money. i really, really wish i had waited for a MSI. dont buy eeepc. i made a mistake with this purchase.
A great portable computer July 19, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great, cheap portable computer. It is light, fast and does exactly what I need it to do. I wanted something to write, read email, and watch shows on the train. Perfect.
Why I love my ASUS Eee PC 900 20g (8.9 inch Display) July 17, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
First..thanks to everyone that wrote a review, it helped in my purchasing decision. I chose this laptop for a number of reasons:
My Toshiba Satellite of about 4 yrs died in the middle of a final paper for class. My sister purchased a HP laptop that came pre-installed with Vista (hated it!!) My daughter has a macbook and we love it!! Finally - I wanted to try out Linux and I wanted a smaller subnotebook, after lugging around a 15 inch toshiba...it was time for a change!
I researched this baby for about 3 months. Everyday..reading reviews, calling my fellow techie friends asking their input..finally I realized no one could talk me out of buying my baby mac..(that is what I called it)..of course like some people I had a great justification for purchasing my new toy...well..its a graduation gift to me from me, and well..um..I wanted to get macbook, but this is MUCH cheaper...and most important..I wanted to try out Linux ..thanks to GWBush - I bought it!!!
The keyboard is small, but hey, like anything in life, I got use to it...I have read lot of complaints about users with the XP version..hmm..HELLO..MICROSOFT!!! I am so quickly moving away from XP to Linux! Besides I am a google user - I typed all of my papers in google documents...I love Mozilla...so..yes I love my new toy...I just drop it into my bag - yes I am a woman that carries a big bag so this is perfect. I am able to watch streaming videos on youtube and my online movie sites...listen to streaming music - just hook it up to my speakers...hey..my own stereo system!!
My advice - dont use XP - go with Linux!!
Wait or 901 July 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Asus like made this unit as a hold over til the atom models where released. It is a bigger version of the 701. I thought the quality was not as good as the 701. The power cord kept falling out. The unit used more battery. Spend a little more and get the atom processor. I returned this unit, faulty charging is not a good for a laptop. The battery was not holding a charge either
I like it so far. Got it at Best Buy for $449 July 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can understand why one of the reviewers was disappointed with his Asus eee 900. I got mine at Best Buy for $449.00 and a trimmed down version of Windows XP Home was pre-installed. It cannot handle Vista or a full version of XP and especially XP Pro. I also won't be adding MS Office products. If I need to work on something like that I will use the pre-installed Star Office or Works and save it in the appropriate format. For my needs, surfing the net at starbucks, etc. it will work great. I was also able to install VZAccess Manager and connect to Verizon Broadband with my USB720 modem. It has 3 USB Ports which is great, more than I expected. The speakers work great. Sound better than my Gateway Solo laptop. I used my iPod to transfer files like VZAccess Manager exe to the Asus. I'm on the road and forgot to bring a USB Stick. Also it comes with a nice padded sleeve although the small power supply/cord will not fit in that. A ZDNet review says the battery will last 3+ hours and that's with playing a DVD (external drive). That would be great on an airplane. I wish they had internet access on the plane :b...
